A Snappy! Q&A Session with Passionate Peacock Event Planning
What are all the types of events you plan? (i.e. weddings, corporate events, etc.)
Weddings, Showers (baby/bridal), Sangeet, Mehndi Ceremony, Coming of Age Ceremony, Diwali Parties, Ornam Parties, and other related South Asian events.
What types of events do you enjoy doing the most and why?
Weddings. Indian weddings are so beautiful! I love everything about them, from the saris to the music, to the friendly people. What a lovely culture!
How many events have you planned in your career, and of these, how many have been held in the Indianapolis area?
Many. I began planning at the collegiate level organizing philanthropic events, and have continued that love through the years for several non-profit organizations. My corporate experience in marketing has also lent itself to a multitude of planning opportunities from groundbreakings, to political fundraisers, to press conferences, to employee events. I have also enjoyed panning and/or decorating for over 40 South Asian weddings in the Indianapolis area over the last two years. My husband was born in India and I have a great love and understanding of the country and it's many customs.
What is the best compliment that you have ever received about your services from a client/guest?
I’m thankful to have been given lots of kind feedback, but the best is not in words, but in action. It’s always so rewarding to be invited to be a guest at the reception and join in the celebration at the end of the evening. Especially within the South Asian culture, a bond is formed beyond just a professional relationship. It feels amazing to stay in touch with brides and their families, even after the wedding is over. I must say, too, that the referrals I receive from clients and venues are always a wonderful compliment.
Which are your favorite venue in town? Most ideal for a South Asian event or ceremony?
The JW Marriott is ideal for large-scale Indian weddings. Not only do they have experience with the customs and cultures, but they also have the facilities to accommodate the large and small events surrounding the wedding day. Further, they have a great outdoor space for the Baraat and Vidai.
What are the most common things that clients often forget to consider when selecting venues and vendors?
Can outside catering be brought into the venue (ie. Indian cuisine)? Are the ‘rights’/CD to photos available for purchase through the photographer (ie. Many Indian clients will have photo books created in India at a very reasonable cost and distribute to family members.)
What would you say differentiates you from other planners in the industry?
I serve a very niche market, and familiar with South Asian cultures, customs, ceremonies and décor.
