Venue Description

The Arts United Center was built in 1973 by the renowned architect Louis Kahn. The proscenium theatre was built at a cost of $4.1 million and serves as the main performance stage hosting productions and seasons by the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, the Fort Wayne Youtheatre, Fort Wayne Ballet, Fort Wayne Dance Collective and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
The Arts United Center also serves as a premier venue for area performing groups and individuals. The 663-seat auditorium boasts a completely clear view to the mid-point of the house curtain at the stage floor line for every seat. The concrete encased auditorium was designed to isolate exterior noise. Louis Kahn likened it to a violin inside a violin case.
In addition to the stage house, auditorium, rehearsal spaces, scene shop and lobby areas, the Arts United Center also houses a gallery for receptions and events, the Arts United administrative offices and the business offices of the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre and the Fort Wayne Youtheatre.
