The Library's mission is to provide the people of Louisville
and Jefferson County with the broadest possible access to knowledge, ideas, and
information, and to support them in their pursuit of learning.
The Bon Air Library serves the neighborhoods of Bon Air,
Highgate Springs, and Buechel, and is a resource library for the eastern and
central parts of Jefferson County. In addition to offering the full array
of services and resources offered at all libraries, the Bon Air Library
features a large public meeting room, accessibility equipment, an exhibit
gallery, and a Teen Center.
The Bon Air Library opened in 1965 on land presented by the
Bon Air Estates. The building was renovated and doubled in size to 20,000
square feet in 1992-93, expanding its collection to about 100,000
items. City of Louisville Alderwoman Barbara Gregg provided funding
to add an outdoor reading garden on the east side of the building in 1995.
The reading garden features a statue by Louisville sculptor Barney Bright
donated by the Meadow Heights Women's Club in 1965.
There are no fees charged for meeting room use.
